Hi, this is my weekly cartoon newsletter. If you haven’t already, why not subscribe and have it emailed to your inbox every Friday - it’s free!
Choosing social media platforms suddenly became a preoccupation this week.
Twitter’s gradual demise has been accelerated by its bonkers billionaire owner, Elon Musk, and two new alternatives have launched to soak up the disaffected, namely Bluesky and Instagram’s Threads.
It's been distracting and unproductive - they all want my attention (and data) - which has forced me to reflect on my social media needs, preferences, and capacity to cope.
I have decided to focus on my weekly Substack newsletter (of course), posting cartoons on Instagram, and building a Bluesky presence for conversations and added publicity. Twitter wasn't working for me, and Threads is just ... well, Twitter with Zuck.
I like Bluesky, as it’s new and fresh, but it’s still in beta and new accounts are by invitation only. I’m not sure when it will go public, but existing accounts are given ‘invite codes’ to give away to fiends, colleagues, etc. You can read more about Bluesky here and, if you’re interested in a Twitter alternative, add yourself to their waiting list - or let me know, as I expect to have an invite code or two to give away in the coming weeks (none left this week).
Unfortunately, cartoons have taken a back seat this week due to other commitments, but here’s the next episode of Augbot & I.
Thanks for reading and subscribing!
Here at the idRussell atelier we love to get likes and comments, and it would be great to hear from you. You can also help support the newsletter by sharing with others - we crave an audience!
Hasta pronto,
Iain
