This week’s newsletter has a new Dog & Pipe 4-panel strip, plus a new section called In The News, which features topical cartoons posted during the week on social media. Normal Rules will be back.
If you don’t recognise the title for this week’s newsletter then you obviously haven’t seen Mel Brook’s classic comedy, The Producers (1968). Check out the big hit, Springtime for Hitler on YouTube.
I thought it was appropriate since the Dog & Pipe strip this week is about Spring, and one of my In The News cartoons is a reference to Nazism. Enjoy!
If you haven’t already, you can subscribe for free to receive my new cartoons by email every Friday. Newsletters are hosted on Substack.
BBC Suspends Football Presenter Gary Lineker
This cartoon was a take on the news that football presenter Gary Lineker was suspended from the BBC for describing the government’s new illegal migration bill as "an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people, in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the ’30s". Needless to say Prime Minister, Rishie Sunak, and the Tories didn’t like the comparison (however, if the shoe fits . . !).
It turns out not everyone fully appreciated this one. During World War 2, it was rumoured that Hitler only had one testicle. Naturally, British humour took full advantage and the song, Hitler has only got one ball, became a wartime classic. While researching I rediscovered the brilliant parody sketch by The Armstrong and Miller Show (highly recommended!).
In case you want to sing along:
Hitler has only got one ball, Göring has two but very small, Himmler is rather sim'lar, But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.
UK Spring Budget
In the UK government’s Spring Budget the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, made a big deal about reducing tax on draught beer, his Brexit Pubs Guarantee (a Brexit benefit, apparently), and then went on to announce huge tax breaks for wealthy doctors to encourage them not to retire early. But, of course, the huge tax breaks are not exclusive to doctors. Obviously.
